Shangri-La at the Fort breaks ground!
The newest hotel property of the Shangri-La Group in the Philippines has broken ground at the booming Fort Bonifacio Global City, the country's newest financial and business district.
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Chairman Robert Kuok of the Kerry Group Ltd led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new hotel, dubbed Shangri-La at the Fort.
Scheduled to open in 2012, Shangri-La at the Fort will be a towering 60-storey affair with 500 guestrooms and 234 apartments. It is located along Fifth Avenue and 30th, and will be sharing the prime block with the gleaming new headquarters of the Philippine Stock Exchange which is expected to be completed in 2010.
When completed, Shangri-La at the Fort is expected to be flanked by a sleek Mind Museum and an extension of the landscaped retail promenade called Bonifacio High Street.
Shangri-La at the Fort will be complement the company's four existing hotel properties in the Philippines and the Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Boracay Island, scheduled to open at the end of 2008.
Shangri-La at the Fort will be a 30-minute drive from the international airport, and will be close to the Manila Golf and Polo Club. It will be a 10-minute-drive from Manila 's existing financial district of Makati where modern high-rises and first-class shopping centers abound.
Shangri-La at the Fort presents a contemporary yet timeless design with the facade of the building tapering skyward, thus making good use of the ocean view in the West.
